Schedule of pricing for additional data ports beyond baseline

Note: All new networking installations for computer labs will be billed at the going rate for time and materials and are NOT part of the pricing schedule outlined below.

$80.00 per data port (This is the cost of the data port on the Cisco switch located in the wiring closet in your building that provides you with the network service.)

$275.00 per faceplate (This is the cost to install a faceplate, three (3) wires/jacks, when additional wiring is required to provide data connectivity). However, in some cases, a request for a single additional network connection in a room may not require wiring costs if the "spare" jack on the existing faceplate can be used. Please see the example scenarios below:

Example #1 Add one additional data connection in an office.
If a faculty or staff member needs one additional data port in his/her office, the cost breakdown would be as follows:

$80.00 would be billed for the switch port cost.

No wiring costs would be incurred because the "spare" data wire, which is the 3rd jack on the faceplate, is already in place and can be utilized for this purpose. Please note: If additional data or voice services are needed beyond this "spare" data wire, then the cost of installing an additional faceplate will become the responsibility of the department.

Example #2 Add two additional data connections in an office.
If a faculty or staff member needs two additional data ports in his/her office, the cost breakdown would be as follows:

$160.00 ($80.00 X 2 ports) would be billed for the two additional switch ports.
$275.00 wiring cost to add an additional faceplate with three data/voice jacks.
======
$435.00 is the total cost (with 2 spare wires/jacks ready for future use)

Please note: Under the example #2 scenario above, the "spare wire" on the existing faceplate in the room would be used for the first new data port and then one of the three jacks on the newly installed face-plate would be used for the second data port. This would leave 2 spare wires/jacks ready for future use.

Disclaimer:

The TII baseline standard for wiring implemented on campus includes a faceplate with three separate CAT-5 wires connected to three separate data jacks on a single faceplate. One CAT-5 wire is for network connectivity, a second is for voice connectivity and the third CAT-5 wire is a spare. Therefore, in some cases where a request is made for additional data ports, it may not be necessary to pull in a whole new additional data faceplate if the "spare" CAT-5 can be used. In all other cases where additional wiring is in fact needed, the standard faceplate bundle (consisting of three CAT-5 wires) would be installed at a rate established by ITS. The most common installation cost today is $275.00. This number has been established by Technical Services of ITS as the cost incurred (time and materials) when installing a new faceplate in most campus buildings.
